Cockburn Central

A sustainably designed arbor walkway which connects, cools and greens a key connective path in the new Cockburn Central development.

Working with The City of Cockburn, the brief was to transform a hot and austere Public Open Space into something that could reflect the changing needs and values of an actively growing area. The project was designed to green and shade an important walkway and provide both a connection and funky seating for the adjacent local café. This 14m long shaded arbour walkway blends over 3 tonnes of recycled products, featuring heritage bean poles salvaged from local derelict market gardens to reflect something of the cultural history of the region. Together with custom made metal art, corten steel planters and environmental education signage showcasing the key features of water and wastewise landscapes, this project has already attracted popular interest as a strategy to accelerate local eco-placemaking.
