Subiaco Rain Garden
The Forever Project installed a gabion on Duke Street, designed to function as both a rain garden and a seating area.
This innovative installation is part of a sustainable initiative aimed at managing stormwater runoff while also enhancing local biodiversity. The gabion acts as a natural filtration system, allowing rainwater to be absorbed and gradually released into the ground, reducing the strain on local drainage systems and helping to prevent flooding. Additionally, the rain garden filters out contaminants, improving water quality before it enters storm drains.
Beyond its environmental benefits, the installation also serves as an insect hotel, providing crucial habitat for pollinators and other beneficial insects. This feature supports local ecosystems by encouraging biodiversity and promoting healthier urban environments. The project contributes to creating a greener, more vibrant community space, offering residents a comfortable spot to relax while fostering greater ecological awareness and connection to nature.
