Nature Conservation Margaret River Region
Fire-wise gardens workshop and installation
Watch the video of our fire-wise gardens workshop and live installation at Wallcliffe Volunteer Fire Brigade with Chris Ferreira and his team from The Forever Project.
The aim was to show how local residents can have an amazing, abundant garden full of habitat and biodiversity - while still being fire-wise!
IChris’ top firewise garden principles include:
🌿Use fire retardant plants
🚧Fuel load separation - separate plants with spacing and paths
🛠Exclusive use of firewise mulches - we are using a mix of recycled construction waste
🌳Fire safe management of existing trees - we strongly support the retention of trees on properties in fire risk zones to protect against ember attack but these must be maintained in your Asset Protection Zone
Big thanks to Margaret River Mitre 10, Everyday Potted Plants, Cowaramup Tube Nursery, Lazarus Horticulture Services, Cowara Landscape Supplies and Red Sand Supplies who contributed with donations of either plants, mulch or other supplies!
This workshop is the latest in Nature Conservation Margaret River Region’s For Nature Landholder Stewardship Program, designed to give landholders a helping hand with conservation at your place!
For Nature is proudly supported by funding from the State Natural Resource Management Program WA, Water Corporation and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River
