Reduce, reuse and recycling are important processes for conserving our precious resources and protecting our environment.
Recycling helps to keep waste out of landfill and reduce greenhouse gasses.
Learn how the City of South Perth municipal waste is dealt with, as well as how other world-class resource recovery facilities are working on a commercial scale here in WA.
Included in this session will be information on the different types of home composting (e.g. hot and cool) as well as top tips on troubleshooting and resurrecting your own tired compost heap).
Learn how you can reduce, reuse and recycle your biodegradable waste at home through various means, giving you the ability to be fully responsible for your household waste such as kitchen scraps and garden waste. Here you will learn about composting, worm farms and the benefits of keeping chickens and ducks. Also learn about creating your own microbial brew – a ‘compost tea’ creating a fantastic tonic for your plants that also adds microbes to breakdown organic matter to create healthy soil.
To top it off, get your hands dirty in our hands-on session applying this information and go home with a suite of samples to help you get your own compost pile humming, and take home a ‘drop’ of microbial brew to spray onto your own garden.
This event is part of a series of sustainability education workshops hosted by the City of South Perth.
